Eli began playing clarinet at the age of nine. After falling in love with jazz his focus moved to saxophone. By the time he was fifteen he was studying music full time while attending an independent study program. During his high school years Eli was involved in several honor bands and local music programs. He played professionally and taught private lessons before going to college.

In 2004 Eli was awarded a scholarship to attend the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. After attending Oberlin, Eli moved to Portland, Oregon and continued studying jazz at Portland State University. Eli then moved to Los Angeles to study at the California Institute of the Arts where he earned a masters degree in jazz studies.

Eli has been a freelance recording artist, a touring musician, an has played in orchestral pits for musicals. Eli is involved with a plethora of musical projects in the Bay Area including jazz quintets, hip hop jazz fusion groups, and an electronic jazz group.

When he’s not playing or teaching Eli enjoys watching stand-up comedy and has even been in a few sketch and improv comedy shows.
